hCG Diet Shake Review

A month ago I was talking to a good friend who was on Phase 2 of the hCG protocol. She said she wasn’t hungry, but she was just so tired of the same old P2 foods. I made several suggestions, but she just wasn’t hearing it. She didn’t want chicken, she didn’t want shrimp, she didn’t want fish and she doesn’t eat beef. She was just bored and ready to throw in the towel. We spoke again later that evening her mood was totally changed. While listening to a podcast I had recommended (Colin Watson’s hCG Body For Life), she had heard about a shake for the hCG diet and had ordered some. I had heard about the shake too, but wasn’t inclined to order it because I am not really a shake person. I had tried several protein shakes, but I never really liked the taste. Anyway, my friend said that the shake she had ordered was sitting on her doorstep when she got home from work. She threw a couple of scoops in the blender along with some cold water. Her exact words were, “Toni, it was SO good! Chocolate-y and creamy–it really hit the spot. This is just what I need to keep going on this round.”

Of course, I was intrigued so I ordered a canister for myself.  Interesting… it only comes in chocolate. Well, I thought, good thing I love chocolate! I received the shake during my last week of Phase 2 and tried it right away. My friend had told me she added some strawberries on one occasion, but I wanted to try it “straight.” And it WAS good. So good that I contacted the manufacturer and told him I wanted to offer it for sale to my blog’s readers.  UPDATE (8/2012):  TWO NEW FLAVORS!  Rich Vanilla Bean and Smooth Spiced Chai.

What I love about this shake first and foremost is the taste and texture. Secondly, it contains hoodia, which helps suppress your appetite.  Because of this, it can not only be used on Phase 2, but on those Phase 3 and Phase 4 days when you don’t have time to prepare a proper meal.  I plan on using the shake as a meal replacement two to three times per week during Phase 2.

I’ve recently had to increase shipping costs because I noticed the amount I’m charged for shipping depends on the geographic area to where the shake is being shipped. Very few of the shakes ship for $8.71. Most ship for $10.71 or $11.70, so I’ve decided on a happy medium of $10 per shake.

I have a question, I’m still on the 500 calories no sugar, blah, blah. Is it ok to have this shake on this part of the diet? Because I would love to have something other than the food I am not eating.

  2. Toni Post author

That’s exactly what this shake is for, Gina. I replace one meal every couple of days with the shake. I also make a small shake as a snack.

  3. Erin

Sounds like exactly what I need – a bit of chocolate every now and again! Question – how many servings come in this container? Thanks!

  4. Toni Post author

Erin, the container says 15–that would be for two scoops per shake. I’ve found 1 scoop to be plenty, so 30 servings for me.

sounds really good. im starting on sunday. my question is did it make you stall or gain at any time?

  6. Toni Post author

No, Star, it didn’t. I’ve done enough rounds to know what my losses should be. Everyone’s different though–anytime you try something off the original protocol you have to see if it works for you. If not, you can always use it during P3.

Hi, thanks for posting about this shake, I’m so exited to try it. Just confirming, it replaces a meal and a veggie serving? I’m sick of the veggies that we’re allowed, so I hope this shake is for that purpose. Thanks SJ

  8. Toni Post author

That’s how I’ve been using it, SJ. It’s only 127 calories and your protein normally should be about 150. You could have a small serving of veggies and still stay within the calorie limit, but you don’t have it.

Hey i was wondering if there is anyway that i can get this in alberta canada?
    Thanks so much

  10. Toni Post author

Hi Jody, the issue is the postage. I normally ship Priority Mail and that is $27. I could send it first class mail for $13.00.

Technically, you’re right. The shake has 2 grams of fat which most certainly come from the inclusion of the oil–a chicken breast has 3.5 grams. I thought I had mentioned it before, but maybe I didn’t–use this shake cautiously in Phase 2. Many are able to use it and still lose the same (I’m one of them).

I am on R2 D5 and already released 9.3lbs. I bought the shake to usae as a meal replacement for dinner on those evenings I don’t feel to eat. I used it at least twice during the last 5 days and it seems to agree with me. I even used it as a snack instead of my apple or strawberries on my D2 as I was anxious to taste it and see what the results would be. It’s great!!!
Your well organised approach is something I have adopted and I find that it keeps me focused so cheating is minimized.
Thank you and keep those great recipes and tips coming.

I did the same thing with the shake. It’s a welcome change from my regular P2 foods. Also I’m drinking on P3 to make sure I get enough protein.

Cindy, there is a very similar shake available from a company in High River. If you were unable to get this shake, perhaps that one is worth a try. HCGDietplan.ca I got mine in the mail last night and plan to try it this AM.
I wish the shipping were not so prohibitive from the USA. I would definitely get this one from Toni, if it were affordable.

Do you use the drops as well as the shake. I am used to having a protein shake every morning for breakfast with strawberries, mangos and frozen OJ so going to no breakfast on the drops is difficult. Can I mix my frozen fruit in with it?

  16. Toni Post author

Piper, if you mean, can you have a shake for breakfast while taking hcg? Yes, just make sure you count it as a part of your 500 calories for the day. I think the shake is perfect for breakfast–don’t use OJ or mangos though. Strawberries ok.

  17. Piper

I see the shake has whey protein in it. I am allergic to milk among 22 other foods! I have always used egg white protein powder. It has 24g of protein, 0g sugar but 2g alcohol sugar. It contains: Egg albumin, xylitol, natural flavor, xanthan gum, lecithin and stevia and is 120 calories per scoop. How does this compare to the HCG shake mix. I used to put flax seed in my smoothies as well but wasn’t sure I could with the HCG plan.

  18. Toni Post author

Totally understand food allergies, Piper–I have some myself. The egg white protein powder definitely would be a good substitute. If you like the way it tastes, I’d say go for it. I had a friend who was a vegetarian (but would eat eggs), and she did really well with the egg white protein powder–she lost a little slower, but she did lose weight. Flax seeds do add calories (37 per tablespoon, I believe) and extra fat (3 g), so I would hold off on adding that until phase 3.

  20. Monica

Hi Toni, I was trying to order the hcg shake from your page but it asks for your email address once in the PayPal screen. Please email me the info needed to do this transaction at monica48335@yahoo.com.

I wanted to say thank you for the shake samples I really love the chocolate but the Vanilla was really really of the CHAIN..I added 6 strawberrys and 1 pk of Truvia with 8 oz of cold water no ice and I was very satisfyed and stayed full. I will be ordering some soon.

  22. Toni Post author

What?! I was wondering why my shake orders stopped! I’ll email you–I know this reply is over a week late. I just returned to work after my surgery and I’ve been a little scattered. So sorry!

  23. Toni Post author

I’m sorry, Kelley, apparently I screwed up the Paypal buttons–I’ll work to fix today. Also want to apologize for taking 3 weeks to reply.

They say this is a meal replacement for the diet. I was wanting to do the shake for both of my meals. But that leaved me with over 200 calories to make up. With this shake, because of the nutrient density, do you HAVE to make up the calories? Or is it meant to replace both of ur meals if u wanted? That would mean I’d consume under 300 calories for the day? How should I work this? My husband is on the diet too…so we would both be using it. That’s a lot of money..but if we cld replace both of our meals, that wld be worth it. Help?!! lol (we only have a couple weeks left on the diet, and are ready for a switch)

    Hi Toni,
I have a 9 days more to go to finish my Phase 2. So Quinoa, Multi-Grain Cheerios, Unsweetned almond Milk and olive oil allowed? These are the foods that I can’t wait to have on my Phase 3.

  26. Toni Post author

I’ve not used the shake to replace both meals for the day. Also, I add spinach or strawberries to my shake which will give you a little more nutrition and a few more calories. Perhaps you should drink 3 shakes a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). That would be very boring for me though.

  27. Toni Post author

How much protein? that’s really important. Has more than double the fat of the hCG shake. You can try it and see what happens.

  28. Tracie Johnson-Hathorn

I think I’m like your friend this round. HCG works but with my schedule, a shake every so often would be a game changer! What does it replace ~protein or protein + veggie?

  29. Toni Post author

I know! I had one yesterday just because I was so dog-gone busy I didn’t have time to make anything for lunch. It replaces a protein and if you add fruit, a protein and a fruit. Sometimes I put spinach in the vanilla one, so that’s a protein and a veggie.

  30. Sylvia

Hi, I just started phase 2. I thought I had to eat egg whites every day for breakfast! So glad I found your site. Question, my husband is drinking the protein shakes from Herbalife. Is that ok for me to drink for breakfast?

  31. Toni Post author

Hi Sylvia, I’m not sure what the nutritional profile is of the Herbalife shakes. If it has less than 2 grams of fat and less than 2 grams of sugar or less than 4 grams of fat and sugar combined it should be fine.

  32. jenny
